“ When we walked in the atmosphere was very clean and well decorated, the servers were nice and attentive as soon as we walked in the door. I don't suggest getting the calamari as it was not fresh, but who even orders calamari at a Mexican restaurant? My Irish boyfriend decided to take the gamble and was extremely disappointed. The staff quickly made it right and switched out the calamari for very delicious tacos instead. if you come here, get tacos, not calamari. ”
“ This is a fantastic restaurant - best Mexican I have ever had. Got a shrimp dish, loaded with very large, butterflied shrimp, cooked to perfection. Served along with nice avocado, cucumber, tomato, red onion, lettuce and a big hunk of lime. Also, rice, black beans, chips & salsa. Very nice spicy sauce. Did take-out, easily two meals and for the low price of $17! AND LOOK OUT, Newland approved liquor by the drink this fall - real deal margaritas coming soon ”
“ Good food, good service, we enjoy it every time we go! Highly recommend it. Should have taken photos! Love the salsa bar and the chips are fresh and warm! ”
“ Best food in Newland!! The staff is fun, the service is quick and the food is amazing!! ”
“ Great spot for Mexican and seafood. Interesting (and refreshing) is that instead of salsa brought to table with the chips there is delicious bean dip. There is also a salsa bar with multiple options from mild to hot. Good food and service. ”
“ This lace was fantastic!! Best I've had in area. The portions were huge and service was first class. Will go back for sure ”
“ First time here since the one in Banner Elk burned. I must say it isn't as impressive as the place they had in BE. We were seated in the back booth by the bar and it was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk. Several men had been seated at the bar drinking for a while and could control their volume. We ordered a margarita and weren't asked for size or if we wanted salted rims. What they brought us was a green mixture with a lime and orange slice with a cherry in the bottom. I normally get the medium drink, but they brought us the small. Better since I didn't like it so much. The food and service are the only reasons I'm giving them 4 stars. The location is very difficult to find parking and requires you to back out into traffic when leaving. I'm recovering from a broken ankle and the step from the parking space to enter the restaurant was difficult to get over. If I was disabled it would have been impossible. The service was good. I miss the old PN in Banner Elk. It was the real charm of the town. ”
“ If you are vacationing in the High Country of North Carolina, be sure to stop at Puerto Nuevo Taqueria. The food is amazing and the portions are generous to say the least. However, not only is there a lot of food for your money, it is very tasty. Make sure that you hit the salsa bar, there are about ten different types that you can try with a varied level of spiciness. All of them flavorful, bit not so overpowering that you can't taste the rest of your food. It is a unique feature that really adds to the dining experience. Also, get the guacamole too, they really make a great one. It is an additional cost (unlike the salsa bar), but we'll worth it! The dip they bring out with the chips you can leave for the person with low tolerance for spicy food, but it is different and also tasty. Our wait staff was attentive, funny, kind, helpful, but not obtrusive. He steered me to the right food selection by what I told him. He was quick to make options clear for my wife, who also loved her meal. The overall feel is one that you can tell this is the place the locals all love. It is a bustling place where you hear the din of good friends, fun times, and clatering plates from the kitchen that is working hard to keep up with the demand. We've been staying in Banner Elk and have enjoyed the local restaurant scene. But, the beautiful, quick, road trip to the quaint little village of Newland was the right call. We recommend it highly. ”
